Help Me Choose

Help me choose is a tool that caters to new to brand or new to product users and offers recommendations on what vehicles to look at based on the answers to the questionnaire.

The goal of this project was to create a tool that would be used by various brands and aid users in their shopping journey.

ROLE

UX/ UI, Wireframe, Prototype, User Testing, QA

Understanding the Problem

Based on user feedback from new to brand or new to product, customers struggled with where to begin in their shopping journey due to the number of vehicle options.

To much technical jargon - Conversation around products often used technical terms that were most new users were unfamiliar with.

Unsure on how to tell if the bike fits their needs - Riders have specific needs but unable to translate that within a the shopping journey.

Comparing vehicles is not easy - Lack of comparison tool makes it hard to narrow down the decision.

Identifying Scope

Initial conversations began with stakeholders to understand users and the passion that they have for these products. They were able to narrow down some attributes that is important to potential buyers when it comes to picking out a bike. Through those collaborative sessions we agreed upon the following deliverables:

  • Recommended Questionnaire

  • Results

  • Site implementation plan

Design

The questionnaire was narrowed down to 6 questions that were turned into a stepped form. By separating the questions it allowed the user to focus on the question at hand. In addition, utilizing simple iconography helped to depict answers and aid in selection.

Questions

Our Recommendations

Created a decision tree answer key that based on selected answers recommends the top three vehicles that best meet the users needs.

Key benefits:

  • Users selection process is narrowed down significantly

  • Rationale helps to explain why these bikes were chosen

  • Comparison chart allows user to quickly scan differences

  • Recommended accessories are cross checked for fitment

Testing

Tests were run throughout the design process. Users included stakeholders, Polaris employees and Indian Motorcycle Riders. An in person session was held with 15 riders that were willing to evaluate the prototype.

Prototype - Created a prototype in XD that included 3 cruisers, 3 baggers, and 3 touring bikes. This meant that users could choose any combination that was geared to their true preferences in order to evaluate the tool appropriately.

Result Highlights from in person test:

  • All users thought that the tool would be beneficial in their shopping journey.

  • Liked the amount of questions and thought that we identified the primary needs when looking for a new bike. Recommended pricing or "How much are you looking to spend?" question
(Business opted not to include because they felt like it could eliminate a bike that they might change their price range for once they saw how closely it matched)

  • Liked the amount of information that was provided in recommendations BUT would like to see a better way to quickly scan that information (check marks / x's)

Implementation

After business approval, I worked through the handoff process. I walked  development team through the design and answered any initial questions and also was available for further questions that were uncovered along the way. I also assisted in the QA process to ensure that all visual and functional expectations were met.

Once development was completed I collaborated with the business team to ensure that the decision tree was set up correctly before it was handed off to the content team for set up.
